Dubai Airports said on Sunday it has finished operational testing of its new $4.5 billion Terminal 3 and that the terminal is on schedule to open on Oct. 14.
Dubai Airports said some 3,800 volunteers were involved in the final simulation, which was focused on testing both the arrival and departure processes as well as the facilities for passengers transferring between flights at the airport.
The terminal, for the sole use of Emirates airline, will be opened in four phases.
Once fully operational the terminal will nearly double the airport’s capacity from 34 million passengers a year to 60 million.
The terminal is specifically deigned to cater to Emirates' fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbos and will boast 25 gates for the A380.
The airline has placed the largest order in the world with a total of 58 set to be delivered in the coming years.
