Vodafone UK chief to head Middle East operation

Vodafone UK’s CEO, Nick Read, will head up the operator’s Middle East operation as the UK-based telco begins to restructure its Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Asia Pacific operations.

Read has been appointed CEO of the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region, made up of Vodafone’s interests in Qatar, Egypt, Australia, China, Fiji, India and New Zealand.

Read, who joined Vodafone in 2001, has held a variety of senior roles at Vodafone UK, including chief financial officer and chief commercial officer. He was appointed CEO of Vodafone UK in early 2006.

Morten Lundal, currently CEO Middle East and Africa, will take on the role of CEO of the Central Europe and Africa Region which will comprise the Vodacom Group in South Africa, and Vodafone’s interests in Ghana, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Turkey.

Lundal joined Vodafone earlier this year, and has previously been CEO for Telenor’s internet division and its business solutions department.

Read and Lundal will report to Vittorio Colao, CEO of Vodafone Group.

Morten Lundal who is CEO of Central Europe and Africa Region was previously with DiGi(Malaysia) as CEO and not CEO for Telenor’s internet division and its business solutions department.
