Spitting targeted in new Dubai clean-up campaign

Dubai is launching a new campaign to clean up the streets of the emirate.
The initiative, which runs until November 13, will target the likes of tobacco chewers who spit on to the street, the municipality has announced.
Launched initially in the Naif district, it will then spread to other parts of the city.
Fines could be handed out to repeat offenders as part of the campaign which will also take aim at other unwanted practises, such as hanging clothes out to dry on balconies and littering, UAE daily The National reported on Tuesday.
“Spitting in public areas is something llamas do. You are different, don’t spit in public areas,” says one of campaign adverts.
A fine of 500 dirhams ($135) is already in place for spitting in public, and this could be increased if people persist in the practice.
People will also be asked to refrain from airing their laundry in public.

for sure this is a nice act that spitting should be fined, as people are abusing this , and this should be cleaning up the streets and increase the awarness of those people , as you can see them they open the car door in the street and there you go ... i am 100% with this fine !!

Dubai is much much cleaner than many Western cities, but yes, I agree, a complete drive for any kinds of litter, solid or liquid, would be a good idea.

It is more disheartening seeing all the litter everywhere than those spit marks.
If the Dubai government implemented a massive effort to arrest and fine people who throw their trash / litter anywhere other than the garbage receptacles and bins, they'd make more money than from traffic offenders. I'm not saying that to stop the efforts against reckless drivers, but only for comparison.
Police can put up more cams in pedestrian walkways, deputize citizens to report litterers (with rewards of course!) and impose fines outright or face jail time. In a very quick time, we'll see a cleaner Dubai.

This is a laudable and positive action by the Dubai government. I hope the next thing that comes after this is a serious drive against people with world-record foul odor who walk around streets and malls full of "confidence and wit" without a trace of awareness on how their odor violates other people's right to clean air.
Many thanks to Dubai government for this courageous initiative.
