ADEC to host Lego-robotics competition for school students

Middle and high school students will compete to build robots from Lego pieces at the third National Robot Olympiad, an event hosted by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and sponsored by Edutech.

To be held on October 13 at the Al Mawaheb Model School for Girls in Abu Dhabi, the Olympiad is designed to promote robotics technology and provide young scientists in the UAE with a platform to show their creative and analytical skills.

The competition will feature two categories, with the themes ‘Recycle Keeper' and ‘Saving Global Environment.' During the competition, teams will have a time limit to solve basic problems using a set of standard mechanical parts.

The students will then be judged on their creativity, problem-solving skills, technological savvy and originality.

Dr Mugheer Al-Khaili, director general of ADEC, said the Olympiad was a commendable initiative in which all students should take part.

"The Olympiad is a valuable means to get students to consider the study of science and technology as a career and to produce valuable inventions that will benefit our society."

One winning team from each category will be sent to the World Robot Olympiad in Japan later this year. The Robot Olympiad is also held in Qatar, with more planned for other GCC countries in the future.
