Abu Dhabi will be working with the British Museum as part of efforts to turn the UAE capital into a cultural hotspot, the CEO of the Tourism Development and Investment Co. (TDIC) said on Tuesday.

Speaking on the sideline of Cityscape, Lee Tabler said the world-famous museum, founded in 1873, will have a presence in Abu Dhabi, although it will not be branded the British Museum.

“We will be associated with the British Museum,” Tabler told Arabian Business in an interview. “It will not be branded the British Museum, they will be assisting with that project."

The British Museum will join the likes of the Louvre and Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi, which have both agreed to set up museums on the emirate's flagship $27 billion cultural district Saadiyat Island.

TDIC is the tourist asset development arm of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

TDIC revealed to Arabian Business last year that it was in talks with the British Museum over the possibility of setting on Saadiyat Island.
