Symantec is rolling out the newest version of its email and content archiving platform Enterprise Vault 8.0 at the Symantec Vision EMEA conference being held at The Hague, Netherlands.

According to the company the new solution enables enterprises to reduce storage costs of e-mail, instant messages and files by more than 60 percent. This is achieved through a number of improvements to its data de-duplication and electronic discovery features and through its associated energy cost savings.

Enterprise Vault archives email, IM and collaborative content such as SharePoint files through storage optimisation, classification and retention technologies making it easy to find the stored content. It simplifies archiving for organisations of all sizes by reducing their storage information costs and automating high-cost workflows around e-discovery.

The newest features of Enterprise Vault 8.0 include simplified installation and administration, advanced storage reduction, seamless end-user experience and intuitive e-discovery with guided review.

The advanced storage reduction means that just one copy of individual e-mails and files are kept regardless of the number of times it occurs. Intuitive e-discovery with guided review means that users will be able to filter and analyse search results quickly while the simplified installation tools allows it professionals to get the product installed and deployed seamlessly and quickly.

Also announced at the event is Symantec’s Brightmail Gateway 8.0 and Data Loss Prevention 9.0. Data Loss Prevention 9.0 is designed to provide organisations with improved capabilities in terms of protecting and monitoring stored information.

The product will, according to Symantec, provide increased coverage of endpoint events, simplified data loss prevention agent management and enhanced data discovery.

Brightmail Gateway 8.0 will allow organisations to secure and protect their unstructured information more effectively by using new sender reputation technology. It does this through adaptive reputation management, a unique approach that combines global reputation, self-learning local reputation, and a new connection class management approach that prioritizes email from reputable senders while rejecting email from spammers.

According to Symantec it will mean that the organisation can block up to 95% of spammers at the connection-level, giving more resources to reputable senders while starving spam connections.

All three products will be available in 2009.
