Symantec launch new disaster recovery platform

Veritas Cluster Server One offers a unique, high availability, disaster recovery architecture says Soderbery.

Symantec has launched its newest high availability and disaster recovery platform, the Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) One at its Symantec Vision EMEA conference being held in the Hague, Netherlands.

The new solution is designed to enable IT professionals to implement active/active disaster recovery, multi-tier business applications and scale out controls. According to the company it will lead to increased uptime while simultaneously decreasing operational costs.

Active/active disaster recovery is made possible by leveraging all the available equipment at the disaster recovery site. The solution will enable the highest priority workloads remain available regardless of the disaster.

The VCS One policies for applications have been designed to minimise total downtime by coordinating restart relationships, this assists in running multi-tier business applications.

“Veritas Cluster Server delivers a new and unique high availability, disaster recovery architecture that addresses not only the existing issues but simplifies the deployment and management of the high availability and disaster recovery services,” said Rob Soderbery, senior vice president of storage and availability management group at Symantec.

According to Symantec the VCS 1 architecture is client based and extremely scalable, it is capable of supporting up to 256 nodes per cluster.

“VCS 1 is policy driven with priorities, scheduling and deployment management to automate tasks and increase operator efficiency,” continued Soderbery.

The solution is designed to deliver high availability and disaster recovery through its single platform for virtual and physical environments, for multi-tier and monolithic application and for scale-out and scale-up control.

The product is available with immediate effect.
