by Benjamin Millington on Saturday, 11 October 2008
The design contract for Sorouh Real Estate's US $4 billion (AED 15 billion) Alghadeer project will be awarded within the coming weeks according to Sorouh chief operating officer Samer Abu-Hijleh.
He also said the main construction contract will go to tender in December and be awarded within the first quarter of next year.
Road and infrastructure work at the Alghadeer site started in April and this month Al Jaber Contracting started enabling works.
The development spans three million m3 and is located on the border of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Construction is set to be completed in 2012. When finished Alghadeer will consist of more than 6000 homes built across six villages and have facilities such as mosques, cinemas, parks, schools and retail centres.
Also this week, Sorouh and Tameer Holdings awarded Arabian Construction Company (ACC) a $1.69 billion contract to build the Gate Towers located in the Shams Abu Dhabi development on Abu Dhabi's Al Reem island.
ACC will construct six out of the eight towers that will make up the Gate District, an area covering 1.1 million m2.
Piling work is scheduled to start immediately and construction is scheduled to begin in January, to be delivered in phases over the next four years.
The Gate Towers will be a mix of residential, commercial, retail and hotels. The Sham Abu Dhabi is the flagship project of Sorouh Real Estate and will cost a total of $6.8 billion.
