The Jumeirah Gardens master plan includes major land reclamation.

Dubai master developer Meraas is going through "an aggressive stage in terms of tendering and awards," for its monster Jumeirah Gardens development, the firm's CEO has told Construction Week.

The majority of enabling and shoring works have already been awarded. Khan Saheb is among the beneficiaries.

Jumeirah Gardens was officially launched at Cityscape Dubai last week. It will be located across an area north of Sheikh Zayed Road between Diyafa Street and Safa Park.

The US $95 billion (AED350 billion) mixed-use "city within a city" will include distinct neighbourhoods, low, medium and high-rise buildings, and "several towers of distinct character."

Construction has already begun on phase one, with final completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2013. Meraas is quoting an estimated build time for the entire development of 12 years.

"We want to work with the best contractors in the market to achieve our objectives," Meraas CEO Sina Al Kazim told CW.

"Tendering is underway. We have released a few of the packages, and are now waiting for the contractors to come back to us."

Six areas of the development are under construction or about to start construction. Al Kazim said awards were being made according to the scope of the work.

"On the site itself you have got different pockets of development happening. We are in discussion with those contractors that have been approached in order to ensure that we do achieve our targets."
