Plans for a mega media park in Abu Dhabi will be launched on Sunday with construction work due to be completed in 2013.
The 200,000 square metre development will eventually house production studios and post production suites, plus the latest satellite and telecommunication links needed for 24-hour media operations, bosses said.
"Abu Dhabi has the opportunity of becoming a creative hub for the media as well as arts and culture," Tony Orsten, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Media Park, told UAE daily Gulf News on Sunday.
He said in five to 10 years, there would be a broad media industry in the UAE capital with production companies being attracted by the state-of-the-art facilities.
A temporary campus for the media park will be set up by the end of this year near Khalifa Park but the actual park will be constructed in the Mina Zayed area.
Both at home and abroad, Abu Dhabi is aiming to make a huge impact on the world media stage.
Last month, Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) revealed it had formed a film financing subsidiary that plans to spend more than $1 billion developing, financing and producing as many as 40 movies over the next five years.
