Team-building essential for companies in "challenging" UAE business environment

For businesses to survive substantial challenges in the UAE workplace, team-building events are essential, industry experts have warned.

Due to a rapidly expanding marketplace, businesses are facing "challenges that you don't find as often in developed markets", according to senior consultant of customised corporate events company, turnaround, Dave Bradley.

Two of the biggest problems demanding the attention of team-building activities were the constant creation of new teams and getting team members up to a suitable standard and speed, according to Bradley.

"Managers can't wait long for the team culture to get closer to the ideal and getting new teams to the required performance level more quickly is something they want to achieve," Bradley said.

"In developed markets, managers can allow for teams to develop more naturally, but in the UAE corporate event companies are somewhat in the acceleration business."

Other challenges cited by Bradley were "issues with such a multicultural workforce"

and the need for improved "connections across many different backgrounds".

With new processes, advancing technology and more sophisticated business procedures there is a further constant change needed to be addressed by business leaders, according to Bradley.

"There is a lot of work being done on becoming more structured around culture values and mission," he said.

"These are things that you can't necessarily do so well in the first few years, but as the company grows communicating your messages more widely becomes increasingly important."
