Saudi king set to launch $3.2bn power projects

A number of development projects, including schemes to boost energy supply, are due to be launched in Saudi Arabia on Monday.
King Abdullah will begin a visit to Madinah when he will launch electricity, water, health and other development projects worth more than $3.2 billion.
The king will lay the foundation stone for four electricity projects worth more than $1.6 billion, Arab News reported on Monday.
They include construction of four 380KV lines to link Madinah with the central and eastern networks as well as with Makkah and southern networks.
The Saudi Electricity Company plans to establish new high voltage lines within the next 10 years at a total cost of $4.2 billion as part of its efforts to link all the kingdom’s regions with a common power grid.
Madinah governor Prince Abdul Aziz said the king would also inaugurate an project to supply water to Madinah’s residential districts.
New health projects to increase the number of hospital beds in the region to more than 1,000 will also be backed while plans for the expansion of Prince Muhammad International Airport in Madinah will also be presented to the king for his approval.
