Drugs with a street value of more than $663,000 have been seized in two major police operations in Bahrain.
Eight people have been arrested for trying to smuggle hashish and opium into the country during two separate incidents.
They include four Saudis and two Bahrainis, who initially escaped by boat despite the police opening fire on the vessel, Gulf Daily News reported on Monday.
Interior Ministry Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) deputy director Brigadier Mubarak bin Daina told the paper: "With the help of witnesses, police found the boat that was used to smuggle the drugs hidden in one of the farms in Saddad after being towed from the Malkiya coast."
Meanwhile, two Iranians were also arrested for smuggling more than 100kg of drugs into the country by sea.
Police recovered a total of 142kg of hashish and half a kilogram of opium.
