Samsung Electronics has confirmed that it will bring its notebook range to the UAE and Saudi Arabia by the end of the year.

The company has sold notebooks in Asia and Europe for some time, but this will be the first time its has brought them to the Middle East.

Madhav Narayan, general manager of the IT Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics commented: |“Samsung has been selling notebooks in Korea since 1995, a market where it commands a whopping 40% share in the notebook space. With this depth of experience we are aiming to capture a considerable share of the total notebook market in the UAE and KSA by the end of 2009.”

Samsung said it had not decided which of its notebook range to release in the Middle East as of yet, but that it would cover a range of price points. The company has also just announced availability of its notebooks in the US, where it is selling seven models in four different categories - netbooks, slim ultraportable, mainstream consumer and business models.

Following on from the UAE and KSA launch, Samsung will begin a phased roll out to other Middle East countries in 2009.

The company will extend contracts with existing IT division partners to include notebooks, Narayan said, and is also in discussion with new partners.

The company is also discussing service and support partners, but will back products with a standard one year warranty, with additional warranty available.

“We are very confident that our entry into the UAE and KSA markets will be met with positive consumer feedback and demand. Samsung Electronics is a committed investor in R&D, which enables us to offer notebooks that fuse extensive functionality and performance with world class design that meet consumer needs and requirements,” he said.

“Moreover, when you look at the Samsung notebook range, you will find that 60% of the components are manufactured by the company itself. This means that Samsung notebooks have one of the best reliability records in the industry thus lowering the total cost of ownership,” Narayan added.

I lived in Europe and seen Samsung there for some years, and I worked for Samsung Printing and Imaging as well, so Samsung is a potential competitor in the IT fields in general then this will be definitely work in the notebooks, and the most important thing is that Samsung's products are reliable and durable, and affordable in prices.
