With the Global Space Technology Forum set to take place from November 16-18, organisers and industry experts discuss the event.

Nick Webb, director of Streamline Marketing Group and organiser of the Global Space Technology Forum

What is GSTF about?

Global Space Technology Forum assumes vital significance for the UAE and the region especially since it is the first such event dedicated to the space industry. It will bring together decision makers from the UAE, the Gulf and the greater Middle East who will use this platform to network with visiting worldwide space experts and entrepreneurs as well as public and private sector space companies.

To ensure a true global presence, GSTF’s organisers, Streamline Marketing Group, has entered into strategic partnership with Farnborough Aerospace Consortium UK, one of the leading Aerospace industry groups in the world with more than 2000 members worldwide.

What can attendees expect from the event i.e. new business, new contacts?

Although it may be argued that the UAE and the Gulf region are not traditional space markets, our research shows that the trends are changing. Many regional governments and private players have committed billions of dollars worth of space projects and GSTF takes place at a crucial time for many of these projects.

Regional public and private companies and end-users of space technology applications can use this platform to closely examine unfolding opportunities in the commercial space segment. There will be special emphasis on topics like Earth Observation, Remote Sensing, Disaster Management, Climate and Environment and many others, which are highly relevant to this region. Many leading space industry experts, suppliers and buyers will be attending, providing visitors an opportunity to gauge potential investments and form collaborative ventures with regional organisations and institutions.

How is the event structured? Conferences, exhibition, debate?

The event is organised over three days and includes an international conference, exhibition and a networking dinner. The conference program is divided into six keynote sessions each discussing a relevant theme related to commercial space technology, such as ‘the Forecasts for the Global Space Industry’ and ‘Commercial Opportunities in the Space Sector’.

How has the event developed since it was initially launched?

Global Space Technology Forum has evoked a tremendous response since it was launched. Major space institutions such as NASA and the European Space Agency are contributing and other key space industry groups like the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Space Frontier Foundation, International Space University, European Space Policy Institute and others have extended their support. Leading organisations like Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd and Arianespace are sponsoring this event with many other leading space companies exhibiting.

What plans do you have for next year's event and beyond?

Global Space Technology Forum will be an annual event to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It will fill up the void that is felt in the Middle East region when it comes to space technology related initiatives and hopes to become the rallying point for all organisations and professionals keen to promote the immediate and long term benefits that space technology related developments can add to the regional economy.
