Net Group calls on IAPCO to help train travel trade professionals
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Monday, 01 January 2007
Dubai-based travel giant, Net Group, has invited the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) to run a training course for travel professionals across the region.
According to Paddy Paul, Net Group’s director of MICE, around 80 participants from hotels, DMCs and other meetings related companies have already signedup for event, which will take place at Le Meridien Dubai from January 30 to February 1.
“We at Net Group feel that there is a dire need for people in this region to be trained to handle international conferences,” she explained. “There are so many venues now available in Dubai, and also the accessibility to Dubai has become so good that we believe that the meetings business is going to really take off.”
Although most of the confirmed delegates are UAE-based, there has been significant interest from other regional countries where Net Group has offices, including Oman and Qatar, Paul added.
The Net Group is also a member of International Conference and Conventions Association (ICCE), Meeting Professionals International (MPI), Society of International Travel Executives (SITE).
“We have joined all of these associations to capitalise on the networking opportunities and the databases available through these associations so we can capture more meetings and business for ourselves,” said Paul.
In other Net Group news, the company recently appointed an Australia-based marketing specialist to represent it in two growing source markets, Australia and New Zealand.
Ian Phillips Marketing will concentrate on developing MICE and leisure business into the UAE.
“We realised that Emirates Airline is flying to Australia so many times each week and that there is a lot of meetings business within in Australia itself. We really want to capture that market,” Paul said.
