Internet security giant Trend Micro plans to launch a web browser for the new Apple iPhone 3G next month, Arabian Business can exclusively reveal.
The company’s chief technology officer (CTO) Raimund Genes said in an interview on the sidelines of the Gitex technology exhibition that the browser will be made available in beta to enterprise customers.
Genes said the browser currently has no name, but is known internally as the “safe web browser”.
If testing goes well the browser could be available to the public in the iPhone App Store by December, he said.
Genes said there has been “high interest from customers”.
He said it was too early to say how much the application will cost.
The much-hyped iPhone 3G has been criticised for its security flaws since being released in July.
Net forums, gizmo sites and security experts have said the iPhone 3G and its Safari web browser are vulnerable to security threats such as phishing and spyware.
