Telecoms equipment maker Nortel Networks on Wednesday announced the completion of two projects at healthcare facilities in the Gulf.
The Canada-based firm said it has deployed communications infrastructure at Sharjah Teaching Hospital in the UAE and King Fahad Medical City in Saudi Arabia.
Nortel said the project with Sharjah Teaching Hospital will give physicians rapid access to diagnostic information and help administrators manage hospital and patient costs.
The King Fahad Medical City project will allow the hospital to promptly connect patients with clinicians and provides it with a foundation for future communications-enabled e-health applications and services, the company said.
"More and more healthcare providers are recognising the need for technology to enhance patient care and operational efficiency," Ramin Attari, vice president and managing director of Nortel Middle East, said in a statement.
The implementation for Sharjah Teaching Hospital includes Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 Series and Ethernet Routing Switch 4500 Series gear, Nortel Communication Server 1000, Nortel WLAN 2300 Series switching and access points and Nortel WLAN Handset 6140.
The implementation for King Fahad Medical City includes Nortel Communication Server 1000, Nortel Contact Centre with skills-based routing and management reporting capabilities and Nortel Media Processing Server 500 with automated routing and multi-language speech capabilities.
