Dubai residents can breathe a sigh of relief, as cooler winter temperatures descend upon the emirate.

Theo Carter, forecaster at Dubai Met Office told Arabian Business on Thursday the city will experience colder weather from now to April, as summer weather patterns are replaced by winter conditions.

“We usually class winter as starting from around October 15, after which daily highs will be about 35 degrees maximum. We will see temperatures drop one to two degrees every two weeks from now on. ” Carter said.

Dubai had almost reached its maximum ever high on July 21 this year, he said, when the temperature hit 47.2 degrees.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Dubai was 47.5 degrees shared over two days in 1999, he said.

January is typically the coolest month for Dubai, with maximum temperatures of about 24 degrees, he added.

The emirate’s weather patterns involve two very distinct systems, with no autumn or spring conditions, he said.

“Summer weather is mostly affected by easterly weather patterns from the Indian monsoon, and in winter immediately flips to a westerly pattern affected by Europe frontal systems, which bring cooler weather and a risk of rain,” he said.

As for this weekend, Carter is forecasting maximum temperatures of 35-36 degrees for the emirate, with the weather to warm up again next week.
