Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE, toured Emirates Airline’s newly delivered Airbus A380 on Saturday.

According to a statement carried by state news agency WAM, Sheikh Mohammed, also ruler of Dubai, said the acquisition of the plane was a boost in the bid to position Emirates' fleet ahead of other global aviation companies.

Emirates had finally received delivery of its second superjumbo on Friday from manufacturer Airbus, after a delay of several weeks.

During the tour Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by a specialist engineer about the internal components of A380, and the qualities of the double-decker plane, WAM said.

Emirates' second A380 follows the airline's first A380 delivered in July, on the Dubai-New York JFK service.

The airline operates two flights a day to New York, with the second daily service using a Boeing 777-300ER.

The delivery of the second A380 brings Emirate’s wide-bodied aircraft fleet to 122, inclusive of freighters.
