Japanese architectural and engineering firm, Nikken Sekkei, has recently launched a bevy of new green designs in the region.

Three sustainable projects - The Dubai Maritime City Landmark Tower, located in the centre of Dubai's Maritime City, the mixed-use design of Andalusia Gardens in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the JAL Resort and Spa in Bahrain - are set to cover 360,000 m2, with development costs estimated at US$3.25 billion.

"Due to the increased awareness of the benefits of sustainable development, Nikken Sekkei is now consolidating its position as market leader in sustainable design throughout the region and especially in the UAE", SAUD Nakamuro Mitsuo, Chairman of Nikken Sekkei.

Nikken Sekkei recently led the Sustainable Urban Development Consortium for Japan and Gulf States Partnership (SDCJ), attesting to the fact that their firm is adhering to cutting-edge sustainable design initiatives.

Within Nikken Sekkei's regional projects, the firm plans to utilise technology that is easily accessible within the Middle East, as well as cost-effective for construction and maintenance.

"We create innovative designs aimed at maintaining optimum performance levels in energy consumption and water conservation, with a minimal carbon footprint," said Fadi Jabri, General Manager of Nikken Sekkei's representative office in the UAE.

Continuing, Jabri said that Nikken Sekkei "Complements the latest international market trends in sustainability, especially here in the middle east, where efficiency, design and sustainability are combined with long term vision."
