Google has released a handheld version of its Google Earth application for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
Google Earth allows people to fly virtually around a 3D world that has been created by satellite and aerial imagery. While the desktop version is available through the Google Earth website, the handheld version can be downloaded for free from the iTunes application store, in all 18 languages the iPhone currently supports.
“Even before we introduced Google Earth back in 2005, the team had long dreamed of being able to carry the Earth around in your pocket. Well, today that dream becomes a reality…,” the Official Google Blog stated.
Virtual tourists and geography enthusiasts can use Google Earth to browse millions of location photos from around the world, use the ‘location’ feature to fly to their desired location and even adjust views using the iPhone’s sensitive tilt sensors.
Perhaps the most useful feature of the application however is the Google Local Search, which allows users to search for cities, places and companies around the world.
