Agility chases $2.9bn in US orders

Agility, the largest logistics company in the Middle East, is bidding for US government contracts worth as much as $2.9 billion that are expected to be awarded by the end of 2008.

The Defense and Government Services (DGS) arm of Kuwait-based Agility is bidding for the contracts according to Dan Mongeon, the CEO of the unit.

“These are multi-year contracts, and we will hear about these in the next 60 days,” said Mongeon in an interview with Arabian Business on Thursday.

DGS provides a diverse group of defense and government customers – including the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, Army Air Force Exchange Service, and the Department of State – land, sea and air transportation.

It has around 2,000 staff, spread across 550 offices in 100 countries around the world.

In June DGS announced that it has been awarded a new contract by the DLA for the Subsistence Prime Vendor program associated with the supply and distribution of food and non-food products to US forces in Iraq and Kuwait.

The new contract began on June 3, 2008 and extended the contract performance period through June 2, 2009. The total maximum value for the one year contract extension period is $2.8 billion.
