Multi-disciplinary consultancy Halcrow has established a UAE landscape team as an expansion of its service portfolio.

The firm, which has a 40-strong landscape team in the UK, said a response to client demand was the reason for the move.

"We have been working in the Middle East for several years without a resident local team and demand from our clients has persuaded us to establish teams in Abu Dhabi and Dubai," said Robert Howard, landscape director.

"We have a very successful and well established planning and urban design team in the UAE which has also provided the impetus for us to establish our landscape team," he added.

Howard said the firm hoped to grow the UAE team to 15, without setting a time frame.

The landscape team is currently working on a range of projects including infrastructure on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi; a residential and resort project and Oman; and on unspecified work with the RTA, he said.

Howard said the firm would continue to work with other landscape consultants on selected projects. Firms the company has collaborated with in the region in the past include Green Concepts, while projects the landscape team has worked on with other divisions include the Al Mamzar Park in Dubai.

Halcrow specialises in the provision of planning, design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide.
