ETA Ascon employees make poverty pledge

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Saturday, 01 November 2008

More than 7100 employees from Dubai-based construction group ETA Ascon gathered in the city last month and pledged to eradicate extreme poverty and work towards an environmentally sustainable world.

The move was to express solidarity with the United Nations-supported "Mission Green Earth Stand Up and Take Action" campaign.

Sporting white signature T-shirts, the employees from all over the UAE gathered at Salahuddin Road, Deira in formation to create the ETA Ascon Star Group logo.

The group's managing director Syed Salahuddin, who also participated in the event, stressed the importance of adopting simple measures to judiciously use the resources available in our daily lives.

"Only such a concerted effort by all would make the pledge meaningful and produce the desired results," he said, adding that unlike man-made marvels which people get tired of easily, natural wonders like the sea and mountains will always fascinate and refresh lives.

"We all must do everything we can to protect Mother Nature," he said.

The pledge is part of a worldwide campaign by global leaders to achieve the eight Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
