The Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education Dubai (BUIDRE) has received accreditation for all of its postgraduate programmes.
The university is the first private dental educational institute to be accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation.
Professor Thomas Kilgore, chief academic officer at BUIDRE, said the accreditation will increase the university's commitment to higher education in the UAE. "Our aim is to set new standards in dental research, education and specialised dental care."
Since its opening in Dubai Healthcare City in March, the institute has admitted 15 out of 100 applicants into its master of science in dentistry and postgraduate certificate programmes. It expects to increase enrolment to 50 students and produce about 20 graduates annually in the coming years.
Established by Boston University in the US, BUIDRE also offers specialised dental care to patients. When fully operational, the institute will feature 50 chairs and 20 full time faculty members and academic specialists. BUIDRE will move to new premises in 2011.
