Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Centre at Dubai Mall has been awarded a world record for the largest acrylic panel, Emaar Malls Group said on Saturday.

Emaar Malls, a subsidiary of Emaar Properties, said the acrylic viewing panel at the aquarium surpassed the previous record holder, the Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa, Japan.

The accolade is set to be featured in the new edition of the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010, the company said.

The viewing panel measures 32.88 metres wide, 8.3 metres high, 750mm thick and weighing 245,614kg, it said.
