EIMA signs Lloyds Register partnership

Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lloyds Register to collaborate on education programmes, seminars and workshops in the UAE.

As part of the agreement, the companies will establish a centre of excellence at Dubai Maritime City Campus, where topics such as ship classification, global maritime safety and cargo security will be covered.

“We are continually working to expand and enhance the number of subjects on offer at Emirates International Maritime Academy,” said Captain Jaafar Sidin, director of EIMA.

“Through this new partnership with Lloyds Register, we aim to match the increasing demands of the Middle East maritime sector by providing security and safety programmes, together with specialised seminars and workshops.”

As a global expert in safety and technical compliance, Lloyds Register advises a number of organisations throughout the world on achieving greater efficiency and ensuring the smooth delivery of services in various work environments.

“Dubai Maritime City has been conceptualised to be the next-generation standard in maritime development,” said John Curley, vice president of Lloyds Register for the Middle East and Africa.

“We consider it an honour to be part of this groundbreaking project and look forward to collaborating with EIMA in providing a top-of-the-line maritime training programme, which will help the region keep in pace with the latest world maritime developments.”
