Catering a top priority for travel industry

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Tuesday, 11 November 2008
ICTA Dubai will address issues such as increased customer demands regarding in-flight catering.

Airlines in the Middle East are coming under increasing pressure from food-savvy passengers demanding decent in-flight food, the International Travel Conference Association (ITCA) has revealed.

The association - which organises ITCA Dubai 2008, the only dedicated travel catering services exhibition for the Middle East, Africa and Indian Subcontinent - said Middle Eastern airlines had seen the highest increase in passenger demand of all regions worldwide, recording an 18% increase in 2007 alone.

"With huge growth seen in the transport sector across the Middle East and its neighbouring countries, the purpose [of ITCA Dubai] is to provide this important sector with travel catering companies that offer the latest, most advanced catering trends and options," said Dubai World Trade Centre group industry manager - food cluster, Joanne Cook.

Running alongside ITCA Dubai will be a two-day conference specifically targeting the travel catering industry in the Middle East, Cook added.

The conference would attract "key decision makers from the travel catering industry across the region", she claimed.

Sponsored by Emirates Airlines, the show hope to attract visitors ranging from airline representatives, charter service operators and in-flight service professionals to cruise caterers, government officials and logistics providers.

ITCA Dubai 2008 will run from November 3-5 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
