More than 1,000 fines have been handed out to motorists driving aggressively as part of a two-week campaign to improve road safety in Dubai.
Traffic cops have so far issued 1,098 penalties to offending drivers and the campaign on part of Sheikh Zayed Road will continue until November 16.
Captain Mahir bin Haidar, campaign supervisor, said the motorists had been fined for speeding, reckless driving and not leaving enough space between vehicles, UAE Khaleej Times reported on Tuesday.
Police are also targeting drivers who speed and change lanes without using indicators.
Haidar said the campaign aimed not to issue tickets to motorists but educate them to respect traffic law and avoid violations.
The campaign will move on to other roads in the emirate once the Sheikh Zayed Road crackdown has ended, he added.
Police said they have noticed an increasing number of women among those guilty of aggressive behaviour, and all violators caught so far have been aged under 40.
