Mashreq opts for Postilion

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Wednesday, 12 November 2008

Mashreq has replaced its existing payment switch infrastructure with Postilion solutions.

The new systems are being used to run the bank's ATM network, point-of-sale (POS) terminals and introduce new integrated POS services for retailers.

According to Postilion, the implementation brings operational improvements and financial savings as well as delivering faster, more efficient service at the ATM and POS.

As the new infrastructure replaces a number of separate applications, it has to support all of the bank's existing channels and operate as a single integrated solution.

Mashreq chose the Postilion solutions for Merchant Acquirers and ATM Owners to provide the functionality the bank required, while also establishing a platform for the development of future channels and services.

Replacing multiple applications with a single integrated solution also provides the bank with the ability to create consolidated reports on payment processing and performance to support better management decision-making.

Mashreq will use Postilion to support its operations across the Middle East region, including the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Egypt. The bank currently has over 200 ATMs and 12,000 POS terminals installed, and the majority of these devices have already been successfully migrated to the Postilion platform.

"Mashreq is dedicated to providing value and innovation to our customers. We have an aggressive strategy for expanding the range of services that we offer," said Somnath Menon, head of operations and technology for Mashreq.

"Using Postilion, Mashreq will be able to deliver ATM and POS services to our customers with greater efficiency and accelerate the introduction of new services."

Steve Kirrage, senior VP and general manager, Middle East, Postilion, said: "This was a significant implementation both for Mashreq and Postilion. We have established a strong record of delivering innovative payment processing solutions to banks, retailers, and processors in the Middle East region, and recognise the importance of fast and smooth implementations. We are proud to have worked with Mashreq on this successful migration project."
