YouTube has entered into a partnership with MGM Worldwide Digital Media that will see clips as well as full-length feature films and television shows streamed on dedicated channels online.
The multiple channel commitment will be kicked off with ‘Impact’, dedicated to MGM’s action programs, featuring a host of clips from classic MGM action films such as Rocky and Ronin.
A sampling of complete popular action television shows and movies like Lone Wolf McQuade and Bulletproof Monk will also be made available.
Another channel, ‘American Gladiators’, will showcase highlights and full episodes of the classic show that peaked in the United States during the 1980s and 1990s.
Both the Impact and American Gladiator YouTube channels are supported by advertisements, and MGM has plans to launch additional channels on the video content sharing website soon.
“Our agreement with YouTube opens the door to a number of themed broadband channels that will both serve the consumers' growing appetite for entertainment media consumption in the digital space and ‘on demand’ space,” commented Jim Packer, co-president of MGM Worldwide Television.
While subscribers in the United States will benefit from the new partnership, most of the content is not made available outside the country. The channels are accessible in the UAE presently but most episodes are blocked with the message: “This video is not available in your country.”
