Saudi Arabia has increased the allowance given to its students studying at university abroad by 50 percent, King Abdullah said on Friday.

The king made the announcement while visiting a group of Saudi students studying in the United States, prior to attending the Group of 20 summit on the global financial crisis in Washington, Saudi daily Arab News reported on Sunday.

More than 40,000 Saudi students currently attend university in Europe, America and Asia, according to Arab News.
