HP ProCurve aims for growth

HP ProCurve, the networking arm of the IT giant, is working on doubling its presence in the region over the next year.

According to Alaa Al Shimy, Middle East GM of HP ProCurve, the firm has around fifteen sales and marketing personnel covering the region, which it will aim to double with effective regional spread, in the next year.

“We had a very good year last year. We will continue to work towards tripling the ProCurve business in the region in the next three years. That remains the goal and we seem to be on target,” he said.

Despite the global financial crisis, Al Shimy assured that he had not yet heard of any regional projects connected with HP ProCurve being affected. He added that some economies might even grow through the crisis, and this might include some of the bigger countries in the region.

The company, which recently announced integration in sales efforts with HP’s Technology Solutions Group (TSG) globally, believes that working together will enable customers to access end-to-end solutions.

“Our go to market remains the same. Our partners will still be reselling and supporting products for SMB and enterprise tier II customers. Only the named accounts, or enterprise tier I customers, will be addressed via TSG’s account managers. They will be able to present a comprehensive portfolio of solutions, including the networking elements, tailored for the customer’s unique needs,” said Al Shimy.

He added that the company had just started taking the first steps in carrying through this integration process, and there will be further positioning of ProCurve solutions in the HP portfolio going forward.

When asked about whether ProCurve will remain as a brand name within HP, Al Shimy said, “Today, I cannot predict that. The roadmap for now is to take it along exactly like HP Software operates within the larger company. When you have a seed, you let it grow in the nursery and you take care of it. When it starts growing, when it comes time to take it to the next step, you move it to the backyard. HP had handled ProCurve in a separate environment for the same reasons; it provided it attention to grow in the initial stages and now it is integrating it more, since it has reached a particular growth stage.”

The company announced today the integration of the Colubris Networks product line into its existing networking portfolio, as well as a new 802.11n wireless access point for enterprises. The new product family is the result of HP’s October acquisition of US-based Colubris Networks.
