A new hotline has been set up by the UAE's Ministry of Labour to help investigate and deal with complaints about rude staff and inadeqate service.
So far, 33 complaints have been looked into and in one case a businessman was reimbursed after claiming he had been overcharged 80,000 dirhams (US$21,800) due to an error by a Ministry officer.
The new system, officials say, aims to increase transparency, accountability, fairness and to improve staff performance, UAE daily The National reported on Monday.
People can register a complaint any ministry official by telephone, e-mail, online forum, fax or by downloading and handing in a form to booths set up at ministry offices.
Once a complaint is logged, it will be studied, processed and used to improve performance. Action will be taken if a mistake had been made. The complaints hotline is 800-665.
“It is one of many initiatives that we have this year and the next,” Humaid bin Deemas, the ministry’s acting director general, told the paper.
“The complaint system is the gate through which Labour Ministry customers can send their criticism against the employees in the ministry. The complaint system will ensure transparency as well as being an essential part towards achieving the ministry’s vision and excellence in services."

Be aware of the fact that even if you work in a freezone, your employer can make any sort of case against you and you will be arrested at the airport without even knowing there was a case against you. Pity but true. A friend ended up paying aed7000 to the authorities for removing what he was told is the 'absconding case' his employer placed on him. technically he was automatically not allowed to travel but the unfortunate part of this story is: whatever happended to the right of the employee? he had to pay the amount to clear the case without having anyone listen to his side of the story. he was told 'pay this amount' to clear your name first.
