SAP planning to lift Western’s efficiency

Saudi Arabia’s Almarai Group has implemented SAP’s flagship enterprise resource planning application (ERP) at its companies Western Bakery and International Baking Services.

The move comes in a bid to integrate the group and streamline the various business units, to speed up information sharing and cut operating costs.

Western Bakery selected the application to centralise the majority of its financial, procurement, production planning and plant maintenance services, and “SAP’s industry leading solutions will give us the technical bandwidth to reduce operational costs and be more competitive”, according to Majed Nofal, CEO, Western Bakeries (L’uisine).

“We want to be able to leverage the efficiencies of the entire Almarai group structure, and that means being online and seamlessly integrated with our sister companies,” Nofal said.

Implemented internally with Almarai’s in-house application team, the group has predicted that the latest upgrade of SAP ERP will increase its productivity by accelerating the pace at which mission-critical information is exchanged among the group’s various business units and provide executives with up to date information to make important business decisions.

“Almarai is one of the best known brands operating in the Gulf region. What global SAP solutions bring to the group of companies is a more beneficial integration as the group grows even further in size and sophistication,” commented Sergio Maccotta, managing director, SAP Middle East and North Africa LLC.

Riyadh-based Almarai is the largest integrated dairy foods company in the world, acquiring Western Bakery in November 2006, with its network extending throughout the Arabian Peninsula, while business software leader SAP currently has 75,000 customers in more than 120 countries.
