Kuwait’s soon to launch premium airline, Wataniya Airways, has agreed deals for maintenance and repair services with Sabena Technics and for on-board communications systems with OnAir.
Sabena Technics, announced on November 24, that it will establish a maintenance base in Kuwait to provide exclusive services for the new airline when it launches in January 2009.
The company will be responsible for carrying out maintenance services for the airlines seven Airbus A320s, which are being delivered up until 2010, plus any additional orders.
Work carried out at the centre will include line, engineering and base maintenance services, plus the servicing of spare parts and aircraft components, carried out at the centre.
On the same day, in-flight communications provider, OnAir announced it will be equipping the Wataniya fleet with the latest communications system ahead of the launch.
The Mobile OnAir communications system enables passengers to use their handsets to send and receive text messages in-flight for a small charge.
"This deal is yet another key milestone in the development of Wataniya Airways and an integral component of the airline's operational planning phase, said George Cooper, the CEO of Wataniya Airways, commenting on the maintenance deal.
“Additionally, passengers travelling with Wataniya Airways expect to be able to stay in touch as they fly both for business and personal reasons, and OnAir’s solution helps us meet this expectation,” he added.
“Being the first airline in the Middle East to introduce SwiftBroadband across our fleet helps ensure we maintain the very highest levels of service to our demanding clients.”
