An access platform company is expanding in to the region, despite a general slowdown in the powered lift sector, it was announced at the Big 5 on Tuesday.

The Haulotte group are set to open a new office in Libya next year, with another opening in Algeria sometime after. This complements the Dubai office the firm built in 2007.

Arthur Danelian, Manager of Haulotte Middle East said: “The Middle East is a key area for the Haulotte group. Strong relationships have been created with the market here and we are participating in the Big 5 PMV to deepen these relationships and create new business contacts. We have been working in this region for some time now and hope that a higher level of safety requirements will apply to Middle Eastern countries in the near future.”

The firm has also been using the show to launch its new telescopic big-boom, an aerial platform with a six meter telescopic jib, an outreach of 23 metres and the capacity to lift up to 350 kilogrammes.

Traditionally, the access platform industry is the first to feel the strain of recession. Despite this, sales have been holding up well in the sector so far, thanks in part to a growing awareness of health and safety issues in emerging markets.
