Microsoft DreamSpark launched in UAE

Microsoft Gulf has officially launched its DreamSpark student program in the United Arab Emirates.

All high school and university students in the country can now access the latest developer, designer and gaming software for free.

The first phase of the program is being piloted in partnership with Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), allowing students to access the tools online at DreamSpark.com or through HCT’s website.

“We call it DreamSpark because every great technology breakthrough starts life as someone’s dream or idea,” commented Walid Abu-Hadba, corporate VP, Developer and Platform Evangelism Group, Microsoft Corp.

“We want to make sure that students have the tools to spark their own dreams plus the power to turn them into reality by doing everything we can to equip a new generation of technology leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to harness the magic of software to improve lives, solve problems and catalyze economic growth,” he added.

Subscribers need to have a Windows Live ID to access the software available, which includes Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition, Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition and several others.

DreamSpark made its regional debut in Saudi Arabia at the Microsoft Innovation Day earlier this month.
