UAE's first children's hospital to be built

The ruler of Dubai has ordered the construction of the UAE's first specialised hospital for children.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has called for the establishment of the Al Jalila Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Hospital for Children as a gift to the children of the UAE to celebrate his daughter Al Jalila’s first birthday on Tuesday.

The hospital will be located in Dubai and will have 200 beds and will also include a pediatric trauma centre, heart centre, transplant unit, surgical departments, outpatient clinics, dialysis unit and oncology care, news agency WAM reported.

Qadi Al Mrooshid, director general of Dubai Health Authority said Sheikh Mohammed had been briefed on the initial designs and had approved them in principle.

Mrooshid said the Dubai Health Authority would assume responsibility for operating and managing the hospital.
