Kuwait's Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MSAL) is constructing a residential complex for foreign workers and has tendered for another, to house a total of 12,000 people, official news agency KUNA reported on Sunday.
The 60,000sqm complex in the Sabhan area will house 3,000 workers, Hussam Tahous, Assistant Undersecretary for Construction Engineering, was quoted as saying.
The ministry has also tendered a project to construct another complex in the Al-Shedadiah area.
The 100,000sqm structure will provide housing for up to 9,000 workers.
The MSAL recently received a written request from the municipality to allocate three locations for the construction of complexes to house 9,000 workers, Al-Tahous added.
He added that the residential complexes were designed to provide workers with entertainment facilities and limit crime.
