Quake tremor felt in parts of the UAE

QUAKE FLASHBACK: The scenes in Dubai as thousands were evacuated after a tremor hit the emirate in September.

A tremor of an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, which shook southern Iranian island of Qasham in the Gulf, was felt in parts of the UAE on Tuesday night.

The tremor, which was recorded by the UAE National Seismic Network at 7:09pm UAE time, was felt in some parts of the northern emiratesnews agency WAM reported.

The same area was rocked by two powerful tremors measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale on 7th Dec. and 5.2 on Dec. 8.

In September, seismic network stations across the UAE detected 17 aftershock earthquakes following the tremor which hit the Iranian port city of Bandher Abbas.

The epicentre of the first quake was the Iranian Island of Qeshm in the Arabian Gulf, and the intensive seismic activity and tremors that followed have ranged between 3.7 and 5.2 on the Richter scale.

Thousands of people were evacuated from high-rise towers across Dubai after an earthquake tremor hit the UAE on Sept. 10.

The quake's epicentre, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, was in southern Iran about 316km from Abu Dhabi, but strong tremors were felt in the UAE.
