Qatar's main index closed nearly two percent higher as banking stocks rallied in the first trading day after the Eid al-Adha holiday. All other Gulf markets are closed.

The Doha benchmark - which rose in all but one of the eight trading days before the Eid break - gained 1.92 percent to 6,166.43 points.

Qatar National Bank rose 4.73 percent and Qatar International Islamic Bank 5.62 percent.

The Qatar index has fallen more than 36 percent since Jan. 1.
