Heritage-inspired designs for two Dubai Metro stations have been approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Dubai leader and the vice president and prime minister of the UAE, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) said.

The designs of Al-Ras and Al-Ghubaiba Stations on the Green Line of the $4.2 billion Dubai Metro project - which is currently under construction - reflect the “rich legacy and historical profile” of the city.

Intended to blend in with the old souks in the area, they will incorporate traditional architecture used in antique buildings, as well as alleyways and arches.

The RTA revealed that Sheikh Mohammed was so impressed by the heritage-inspired designs that he wants to explore the possibility of using similar styling for more metro stations.

Even the entrances to the two stations will be constructed to match the heritage architecture of the area and will be integrated with the design of Dubai Creek Banks Development Project.
