Exhibition Names

It appears that exhibition names are getting more humorous by the day. The Spin was especially amused by the new water, energy and environment event, to be held in Dubai next March. Its name? Wetex.
Note to PRs in Buchanan Middle East: Try to remember that your agency has been the subject of a major rebranding exercise, so best to avoid starting a conversation with: "Hello, it's x from JWT."
PRs for the Dubai International Film Festival have left no stone unturned in their mission to generate publicity for the movie-based shindig. The Spin received an impressive 25 press releases and notifications over a month-long period. And he even opened one or two of them. The Spin is looking forward to settling into a big comfy seat and watching some quality international cinema. Now, where's his mobile phone and laser pen?
They promise to sort out all of your computer-related problems, and they have a snazzy marketing campaign to promote themselves. Yes, it's Internet Heroes, the new Dubai-based IT support company. However, a spotter has noticed that Internet Heroes is somewhat 'inspired' by an American IT support company called Geek Squad, right down to using almost identical copy online and in its recruitment advertising. "I didn't realise that their inspiration actually ran into full-scale cut and paste from the Geeksquad website," says our spotter, posting on Flip Media's blog.
The Spin simply couldn't let another week go by without referring once again to his favourite ad of the year Falconcity of Wonders. For those of you who haven't seen this turkey-tastic effort, it is riddled with grammatical errors and nonsense sentences, as it seeks to describe the wonders of a Dubai-based development that seeks to recreate the wonders of the modern world. A Spin spotter also noticed that it had generously relocated the Leaning Tower of Pisa. To Rome.
The Spin had the misfortune of watching DIFF TV the station covering Dubai International Film Festival, the other night. And while the question "Was Bobby a good film to open the festival", was a relevant one for guests leaving the gala screening, it got a bit boring at the 100th time of asking.
