The UAE National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) plans to implement new initiatives to crack down on the problem of human trafficking, it said on Wednesday.

The NCCT wants to launch a media campaign in all UAE airports to raise awareness of human trafficking and up the ante in the country’s fight against the crime.

Through this initiative, the committee hopes to limit the number of human trafficking victims arriving through UAE airports who get trapped in different kinds of fraud and fictional contracts, said the committee’s chairman and minister of foreign affairs, H.E. Dr Awar Gargash.

NCCT members reviewed the country's position on human trafficking and stressed the importance of cooperation with other countries at the committee’s 12th meeting since it was established in 2006.

"Co-operation with other countries is important in combating human trafficking as a broad-based approach will provide information and enable data sharing about similar crime in other countries, as well as in improving the efficiency of security institutions fighting this crime," said Dr Gargash.

The committee has also decided to participate in a human trafficking conference which takes place in Bahrain in February.
