Dubai Financial Market investor base grows

The number of investors in the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) jumped by 26.5 percent at the end of 2008 from 2007, the latest statistics showed on Wednesday.
The figures revealed that the number of investors grew from 423,418 in 2007 to 535,563 at the end of 2008.
UAE investors accounted for 62.79 percent of investors last year, as UAE participant numbers increased from 267,046 in 2007 to 336,304 in 2008, according to the statistics.
The second largest increase by numbers was seen in Omani investors. Last year 8435 new Omani investors joined the DFM, bringing the total to 37,860 compared to 29,425 in 2007.
Meanwhile, there were 6,568 new Indian investors in 2008, bringing the total up to 23,329 from 16,761 in 2007.
Dubai's index was the worst performing in the Gulf region in 2008, down more than 70 percent.
