The Emirates mobile hospital, the world's first civilian field hospital, will be launched in three African countries, chief of the humanitarian medical initiative announced Monday.

Dr Adel Al Shamri, executive director of the Zayed Charity Initiative, which is managing the project, said the hospital would be commissioned in Morocco, Eritrea and Egypt, according to UAE's WAM news agency.

''The launch will be made under a well-studied plan that caters for the needs of these countries over three years. The hospital will be launched in three countries every year,'' he added, following the first joint coordinating meeting with officials from Abu Dhabi police's medical services directorate.

Al Shameri appreciated efforts being made by Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, minister of interior, for provision of medical and logistic support for the project.

''The project will highlight the UAE's major role on international humanitarian services and as a leader in reaching out to underprivileged population and those in need across the world irrespective of their race or faith,'' he said.

Monday's meeting aimed to identify the scheme's staffing and equipment requirements that will be supplied by the police's medical directorate.
