EMIRATE RULER: Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmad Al Mualla, who died on Jan. 2. (WAM)
Supreme council member and ruler of Umm Al-Quwain, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, has issued a decree appointing Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla as crown prince of Umm Al-Quwain.
According to news agency WAM, Emiri Decree no. 1 of 2009 takes effect from Jan. 13, 2009 and would be published in the official gazette.
Umm al-Quwain is the one of the smallest of the seven emirates comprising the UAE.
The emirate was ruled until his death by Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmad Al Mualla, who was a member of the UAE's Supreme Council since 1981. He died on January 2, 2009, in London.
