Bahrain Premier targets family tourism growth

Bahrain is seeking to be to be one of the top destinations for family tourism and leisure in the Gulf, its Premier has revealed.

Prime minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa made his announcement at the launch of Muharraq Land, a $50 million project located over an area of 93,618 sq m in Manama.

It includes a recreation park, entertainment rides and games, gardens, walkways, an external clinic offering free medical services, a hotel, restaurants and cafes, as well as a 45-lane bowling hall.

"Besides its hospitable and friendly people and the government's support for investment in tourism, Bahrain enjoys the infrastructure for family and leisure tourism," the Premier said in comments published by Gulf Daily News on Thursday.

"Muharraq has become a suitable destination for the tourism market. Once major projects are completed, it will become a top choice for tourists and visitors, especially from the GCC, he told the paper.

The Premier added that the Muharraq Land project represented one of the facets of upgrading tourism in Bahrain in general.

It will also allow Bahrain to delve into the tourism market with a fresh concept and build for a tourism structure for the future, he said.
